Missed Moments are a bittersweet thing. Sometimes we feel like we could/should be doing something else, living another life, but for one reason or another we are living the life we are and that is what we have to handle in the moment.

Musically I wanted to get back to richer, more detailed arrangements with pieces that are more interesting, if not sometimes challenging. My compositional approach is a little like “Classical lite” in that I work on theme & variations – using my very limited formal abilities of course. Synth sounds are built in the piece based on what I feel the piece wants.
Tracks:
Missed Moments
- No Boy’s Adventure Tale: is a warning that while this music may be mostly pretty and grand, there are depths to the story. The title is a play on the a-ha song.
- A Room That is Never Sill: I am not sure that anyone’s mind is ever still, but for people on the Autism spectrum, there can be more activity than is easy to deal with. All that thinking has its advantages and disadvantages.
- When The Boat Comes In: is another borrowed title. This time it is from a TV show about a fellow who never seems able to find his feet in life after fighting in WWI. The fellow is eternally waiting for the moment that his good things arrive.
- Summer in Samarkand: represents the constant fantasy of good things that are hoped to arrive – a dangerous form of affirmation/manifestation. Samarkand seemed such a fantastic place when I was a kid with shows like The Silk Road and the postcards I was sent for my collection.
- The Same Day Over: with our set pieces in place, we now look into the dark maw of the drudge that is a reality when there seems little choice but to live the same unsatisfying day over & over and pretend that things will be better.
- The Road Home: is the hope that counters and allows moving on. This one pretty well wrote itself after I thought I was done writing.
- That Hidden Harmony: reminds us that despite any difficulties, harmony is always there waiting to be found.
The Moment tracks are the second “disc” and I prefer that they are taken as a completely separate record, even tho delivered as a double.

Captured Moments
The project didn’t feel complete. I didn’t want to add more to the album itself but the project wanted something more. In casting about, I made one of my “freeform” pieces where I simply let things happen. That felt right. Most of these pieces are a couple of takes completely off the cuff. Sometimes even ignoring the usual suspects of key & scale! So this became a double album of sorts. Missed Moments + Captured Moments. Missed as above and, in this half, the moments are captured as they happen, somewhat like photographs.
