Between Here & the Future

All that stands between now and then is time.

Between Here & the Future is a set of five minimal pieces themed: Time and How We Feel It. The form is Ambient or program music, similar to how Brian Eno presented the idea in his Ambient Series of albums.

Tracks and Technicalities

  1. Standing Here & Now – where everything starts
  2. Intervals Between – the core of time is the difference between here and there, then and now
  3. Progression of Existence – is how we feel time
  4. Polychronologic Instantiation – an absurdity based on the creation of particles in rendering software, where one thing can be created at many different time points at once
  5. Into The Future – is all time ever does, ever can do
  6. Time Decay – time doesn’t decay, but there is a term in investing where time causes the value of a thing to decay over time

As always, the tools list is really minimal. Reason 13: using mostly stock devices like Europa, Thor, etc. Cover art made in Inkscape, video in DaVinci Resolve. Everything, including artwork made by hand.

The album started from a bit of a joke, an irony, or something like that. I saw a takedown of those pretend musicians who go on and on about gear, but get horribly postal on anyone who dares not be like them; particularly people who do real work (as opposed to dreary over-limited bloop ‘n’ drone gear-workouts to justify all the toys). The irony was that I realized the piece I made was really nice, not the thing I was parodying at all. I decided to make more.
