What’s Next?

What’s Next? is pure Electronic Music done my way. My idea was for the pieces to feel pretty. And they do. In fact, they are somewhat at odds with the apparent theme.

When it came to track naming, I had a line from a Tom Cruise movie as a possible title/theme. That turned out to be used by a piece of music from that movie, so I adjusted. Every track after was applied the first idea that came to me in a quick-association process similar to the old ink blot test. It soon became clear that titles reflected current events. I won’t say what, as that encourages people to be nasty.

As I said to Jane when she asked what the track titles meant:

a kind of revolution where we simply make a mess. In Randian (as in Ayn) fashion some slink away to try again. Eventually seeing a shining city, as if it will be better. No one will get it and that is ok

Guts

I worked on a cover, and the idea of creepy AI art kept bugging me. All who follow me know I have a very anti-AI stance. I stumbled on a Google tool that will make an alphabet based on prompts. I put in utopian city buildings and got my letters. The usual ridiculousness. I liked the K as it looked false-pretty and the K suggested the un-shrugged Ok we tend to say to everything, regardless of sense.

Ideas I already had on the page were: “No AI Image Here” and a “?” I put the two together and placed them over the utopian AI image to show the total lie of the situation – a sort of Baghdad Bob situation. The layers of absurdity reflect the moment we live in.

Normally, I give a track discussion. Not this time. Again, I won’t get into that as it was nothing but a fictional plot with little flesh on the bones. I hope people can apply their own enjoyment to this without the need for something else to spoon-feed them. It is simply music.
