A kind of travelogue as I pack up my old home, drive across the country, and find my feet in my new home.
Because this was more like a double album in running time and the pieces were split between more traditionally structured pieces and those that were looser or less formally developed, not to mention darker, I decided to put the ‘faster’ pieces first. This meant that the order in which they were composed was changed, but I’m sure no one really cares so long as the music flows. After all, the spice must flow and all that.

Tracks
- Staring At The Dawn – Sometimes new dawns do seem to fade, but sooner or later the sun comes.
- Travel Time – I laid out my whole drive schedule so it was all timed.
- Golburn On Hume – A lovely highway and a charming stone town (with a big cherry pie).
- Wind Walkers – My first time seeing wind turbines, marching across the hills like Martians. Beautiful but frightening too.
- Last And Last Always – Someone pointed out to me that I tend to assume that people will do the worst by me. True. It happens to all of us, but more to some than others. The title is a parody of that other song, so no need to wonder.
- Waiting For The Parts – A life revolves around all these parts. When they are not there, but expected, it feels incomplete.
- Unconditional – Whatever was holding me shifted, and time started again.
- Two Weeks – The last two weeks of waiting for everything to settle.
- Held In No-Time – As you will see, this was a no-time, a period of non-completion.
- Winding The Cog – When life is not flowing the way we hope, it is a case of winding that cog day after day until things are ready to flow again.
- You Say Me I Say You – Straight up, a fight with no actual end. I did need to learn to be a lot less accommodating in this time.
- Life In Cloud – It was foggy all day! It made the world feel very small.
- Camping Out – For several months I was effectively camping in my own unit on both ends.
- Someone Else’s Stars – Same country, but a very different atmosphere.
- Lost In The Sheeplands – Google Maps sent me on a complex journey through all the farming towns across a whole state. It was raining, fog bands, sections of one-lane roads (one lane for everyone), pulling over for trucks carrying hay for sheep. Lovely but not easy (like the Hume the day before). Silly me for not being more checky.
- What Will Be – One can go insane or try to live in trust that things will work out.
Background
These pieces were all made with a “best I have right now” studio – mostly on the floor. The first couple of pieces happened as Reason updated to version 14 with big workflow changes in the middle of packing up my home for a move across the country to a unit I had never seen in a place I had never been. Most were made on the other end whilst waiting for furniture in my new unit, so I was all scrunched up.
During most of this time, I could not get internet from the government-backed network.
After waiting several weeks for someone to come out, they were happy to connect the internet to the other side of the apartment building, effectively three houses away (as per three houses in that space on the other side of the road), but they would not put the plug they required in my unit. There was another set of plugs that they declined to even accept could carry internet (umm HFC was the former standard for this provider, and how I got my internet in my last unit). One of their techs saw the insanity of this and told the network they needed to sort this issue moving forward. Govt said again that what I had was adequate! Happy to take my money for a service I could never use!! This left me burning through data from my mobile phone. With little data left and finally a clear line in the mud, I decided to try in-person with different providers, as someone said to me that what is said online is not what is available. The largest provider offered me a stone-age solution for a price twice what would be normal. The next actually had 5G wireless, which everyone was telling me did not exist. Oh, thank the holy banana peel.
At the same time, the sale of my old unit was raising one insane issue after another. Buyers were told things were wrong that were not, pipes burst, and scariest of the lot, a bank still held a guarantee against my property for a loan that never went ahead about 8 years earlier. By law, that guarantee had to be voided when the loan did not happen. But nooooo, they left this ‘bank cheque to cash‘ with a lawyer who then blindly sent it to another lawyer who posted it to someone else. Thankfully, they did not cash it in. The effing nonce of a bank mismanager did not do his job and left my unit encumbered for what in effect was a crime by them. And their new mismanager tried to tell me it was my fault OMFG @#@$#^
So, needless to say, some of this material is, shall we say, conflicted, as this was a period of refusing to flow (at least the way I wanted it to). Knowing this, I simply decided to let every piece flow as it would.
