1994 – EP as Benedict
I had become quite taken with Zen and Taoism at this time because of their simple yet accepting view of life. I felt that I wanted to play with some of those ideas in how I made music.
Because I had almost always composed rigidly, either with a mouse to screen, or note by note to a metal box, I had become taken with the idea of composing completely off the cuff with minimal structure. Having no pre-set piece structure and letting the sounds take me where they would in the moment.
I was pleased with the results and this established a technique for composition I have used ever since to some degree.
